The huge news story yesterday was the person who got the Nintendo Switch shipped early. A lot of people seem jealous, but I personally feel sorry for that person. I feel like if I got the Switch early sure it would be cool, but there are no games released yet and I wouldn’t want to go online until the release date in case Nintendo sees it as some sort of legal violation and shuts down my Nintendo account. In this situation I have the coolest new hardware sitting on my shelf and I can’t even use it until release day. At least this person knows they got their Switch, but there is so little they can do with it that I think this is more of a curse than a blessing. Now for the company that sent out the Switch early what do you guys think the punishment would be or should be for them?

    • Yeah he had to give the console back today. Here is the info from MyNintendoNews.

Nintendo Has Taken Back The Leaked Switch Console
You may recall the Nintendo Switch leak that came from NeoGAF user hiphoprobot a couple of days ago. Well, hiphoprobot has recently provided an update on his situation. The Nintendo Switch console that hiphoprobot leaked in videos and pictures is no longer in his possession. He said “Nintendo has the console back and I am personally not in any trouble. Other than being out a console and the money I paid for it which really sucks with all the bills I have right now but it isn’t going to be the end of the world or anything”. According to hiphoprobot, Nintendo didn’t show up to his house to get the console. It is being shipped to them. He also clarified that it’s not Nintendo he’s in contact with, but a “third-party working on their behalf”. He explained that he doesn’t necessarily think Nintendo is wrong for wanting the console back “after knowing what happened”. Hiphoprobot, again, proceeded to clarify. He says that “for the sake of clarification I will say that I don’t think the person I got it from knew and therefore I certainly didn’t know but somewhere down the chain some switches had “mysteriously disappeared”. So while it was unknown to me, once I found out that it had probably been stolen I did’t feel comfortable keeping it”. Hiphoprobot also says “the people I dealt with have all been very nice and reasonable”. Although he’s not in trouble, hiphoprobot said that he “didn’t feel like pushing my luck by keeping the videos up”. He also says that “I wouldn’t be surprised if they get me a replacement console or something” and he clarified that Nintendo did not ask him to take the videos down.

    • Yeah seriously. Only one was shipped out incorrectly and then posted all over the internet. It seems like an inside job.

      • Eddy Ray calls it! This post comes from Nintendo Everything.

Nintendo says “small number” of Switch systems were stolen, confirms early unit was “illegally resold”

Nintendo has provided a statement to IGN noting that “a small number” of Switch units were stolen “in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor”. The company adds that “units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor, with one system being illegally resold.”
Fortunately, Nintendo has discovered the root of the problem. “The individuals involved have been identified, terminated from their place of employment and are under investigation by local law enforcement authorities on criminal charges,” the company says.
        Here’s Nintendo’s full statement:
“Earlier this week, individuals claimed to prematurely purchase a small number of Nintendo Switch systems from an unspecified retailer. Nintendo has determined these units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor, with one system being illegally resold. The individuals involved have been identified, terminated from their place of employment and are under investigation by local law enforcement authorities on criminal charges.
Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide on March 3, 2017, and we look forward to everyone being able to discover the wonders of the new system for themselves at that time.”
This is all related to the Switch leak from earlier in the week. hiphoptherobot, who obtained the system, indicated todaythat it was sold to him after it was obtained through illegal means. While Nintendo took back the system, he apparently won’t be getting into any trouble.
