The rumor mill for Nintendo shows no sign of stopping, with prominent Japanese magazine Nikkei throwing their hat into the ring once again. Nikkei is a major publication that has successfully released some rumors, but they have also made some questionable reports in the past (like stating the NX would run on Android, which seems highly unlikely at this point), so take this with a heavy grain of salt. Their newest report does make sense, though.

Translated by industry expert Dr. Serkan Toto, the rumor states that Nintendo is going to end production on the Wii U by the end of this year. They mention that many accessories have already ended production, and that Nintendo intends to deplete Wii U inventory by the end of the year. Nikkei does not rule out that Nintendo will sell the NX this year, but they are confirming it will be unveiled.

Nintendo’s replied to this saying nah.

Actually, all they said was  the report didn’t come from them. So they didn’t deny it either way lol. The said production would continue next quarter and thereafter… not really specific in regards to saying anything about going into next year. I’m honestly not even sure why they commented.

Make sense though, if the NX is coming out this year or early next. If the Wii U ceases production at the end of this year, that doesn’t mean they wont’ have enough to sell for a couple more years.
