December 17 – December 23: This Week in Nintendo News

As the holidays approached, there were still several Nintendo announcements to learn about.

Nintendo Switch News

Bandai Namco started off the week with an announcement of Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus for the Switch. In addition to the main content, it also adds a two-player mode. It will be available from the eShop on February 22. Check out the announcement trailer.

Bandai Namco also announced the contents of the Extra Pack 2 DLC for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. It will add a new story scenario involving a mysterious character named Fu, as well as four playable characters. There will also be a free update that adds new customization, new costumes, and the ability to perform Ultimate Attacks together with another character.

Weekly Famitsu revealed that a mobile game called World Neverland: Daily Life in the Elnea Kingdom is coming to the Switch in Japan. It is a simulation game that attempts to simulate daily life in society, with houses, events, jobs, marriage, gameplay across multiple generations, monster-fighting, martial arts tournaments, and more. It will be out in spring 2018. No localization has been announced yet, but the website has a disabled English language option, which makes it likely. You can watch the original English trailer for the smartphone release.

In Japan, Kaiji: Steel Beam Crossing of Despair has been announced for December 28. It is the Switch version of a VR Kaiji game, and it might be playable only in handheld mode.

Japan is also getting Jang-Navi Mahjong Online will be out on the eShop on January 29, with online cross-platform mahjong games.

Next, Dragon Quest Builders will be out for the Switch on February 9 in North America and Europe.

If you prefer tactical RPGs to building games, however, maybe your attention is on Tiny Metal instead (although there was some controversy around its development). If so, you’ll be pleased to know that it is available now!

 

A western release has been announced for My Hero Academia: One’s Justice. No release date has been revealed, but an English trailer is available.

The spin-off Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura launched in Japan with one character in the main game and a separate character available as DLC, and it has been revealed that Murasaki will be added as a downloadable character in February. There is still no localization news.

Speaking of games with no localization announcement yet, the otome visual novel The Men of Yoshiwara: Ohgiya will be out on the Switch eShop this winter. It is a romance set in a gender-swapped version of the Yoshiwara pleasure district.

Four new characters have been revealed for Valkyria Chronicles 4. Angelica is a civilian with amnesia who confronts the “Witch of the Snowstorm,” Karen is a medic, Ragnarok is a “medical dog,” and Minerva is Squad F’s chivalrous commander. In Valkyria Chronicles 4, you will level up classes rather than individual soldiers, and classes can be upgraded to a higher class at a certain level. There will be a gameplay live stream on December 27.

The version 1.1.1 update for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, announced last week, is now available. This update adds an easy mode for Tiger! Tiger!, adds a new size for the mini-map, makes it so that the Skip Travel screen opens to your location, and makes additional small fixes. The full patch notes are available here when you click Ver. 1.1.1.

Version 5.0 of ARMS is now available, as well. This update adds a new playable fighter named Dr. Coyle, a new stage, and three new ARMS, in addition to tweaks and adjustments. You can read the full patch notes here under Ver. 5.0. Nintendo has confirmed that this will be the final major content update for ARMS. Take a look at the new trailer introducing Dr. Coyle.

Finally, if you have Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack, there will be a special “Christmas Mode” available only on December 24 and 25. This special mode will give the game a temporary Christmas theme and will disappear after the 25th.

Nintendo Switch and 3DS News

The version 1.3 update for Fire Emblem Warriors is now available, as is DLC Pack #1, which contains Azura, Oboro, and Niles, new History Mode maps, new support conversations, new costumes, and new weapons.

Nintendo 3DS News

Did you enjoy last week’s character trailer for The Alliance Alive? The newest trailer introduces three more characters: the signimancer Gene, the mercenary Rachel, and the researcher Tiggy. They have been described as “neutral” characters. The Alliance Alive is due out on March 27 in the Americas and Europe.
