Our Top 3 Favorite Princess Zeldas

Our Top 3 Favorite Princess Zeldas

Unlike many protagonists of long-running series, Link and Zelda are different characters in most of the Legend of Zelda games. And while Link generally has the same basic traits, Zelda’s role and personality often varies greatly. Therefore, we’d like to take a look at three of our top favorite Princess Zeldas.

Twilight Princess

There is something somber and solemn about Zelda in Twilight Princess, the leader of a fallen Hyrule. She surrendered to Zant to protect her people and became a prisoner as a result. Zelda being a prisoner is nothing unusual for the series, but there is something noble about how it came about this time. Although her role in the game is somewhat small, this Princess Zelda truly comes across as regal and queenly.

Wind Waker

The Wind Waker puts Zelda in a less typical role: a pirate captain who doesn’t know her true identity. As Tetra, she is an entertaining and powerful ally to Link, much more informal and active than most other versions of Zelda. The only disappointing part of her role is that once she’s revealed as the true Princess Zelda, she takes a backseat in the plot until the final battle. Still, the ending of the game (and its sequels) suggests she took on the role of Tetra again. How can you not love a pirate princess?

Spirit Tracks

This is bound to be a divisive one, especially since Spirit Tracks is a divisive game to begin with, but Zelda from Spirit Tracks is one of her most unique incarnations. While Princess Zelda is usually a noble, generous character, this Zelda starts off the game as a bit of a spoiled brat. This lets her undergo significant character development across the course of the game–especially since she accompanies Link on his journey and truly feels like she’s a part of the story. She’s also the first main series Zelda to be playable in certain sections. Her role, presence throughout the game, and character development make Spirit Tracks’s Zelda one of our favorites in the series.

In Conclusion

There have been many games in the Legend of Zelda series, and many incarnations of Princess Zelda. Which of them is your favorite? For that matter, do you have a favorite Link? Let us know in the comments.
