Hopes and Expectations for Super Smash Bros. on the Switch
After the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, the series’ creator Masahiro Sakurai indicated that he might not want to return for another Smash Bros. game, but he’s made similar statements in the past. While the series wouldn’t be the same without Sakurai in charge, chances are pretty good we’ll eventually see a new entry in the series for the Nintendo Switch. Let’s discuss our hopes and expectations for a Nintendo Switch Smash Bros. game.
Return of Story Mode
As someone who loves single-player games much more than multiplayer games, it disappointed me when Nintendo announced that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS wouldn’t have a story mode. With any luck, the next game in the series will shift away from that mindset and include a story mode again.
Smash Run, a special mode only available in the 3DS game, challenged players to explore a vast area, defeat enemies, and search for power-ups and prizes. It was a fun change from typical Smash Bros. gameplay, and it would be nice to see a similar mode return in the next game.
While many people love the Super Smash Bros. games, not all of them agree on what the games should be like. Disagreements over whether the recent games are competitive enough or not could be resolved by adding a mode (or setting) with gameplay closer to Super Smash Bros. Melee, while a different mode could play like the newer ones.
And of course, we could end up getting an enhanced port of the previous game, possibly with a new features and additional characters added for the Switch version. But assuming a new Super Smash Bros. game will eventually be made for the Switch, what do you expect it to be like? What do you hope to see in it? Let us know in the comments.
