Is a Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Remake on the Way?
The popular Mario & Luigi spin-off RPG series began with Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on the Game Boy Advance. It was later released on the Wii U Virtual Console, as well. Now, new rumors suggest it might be remade.
While it can’t be found through normal means, a user discovered title data in the 3DS eShop for something called “Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Dx.” A remake is the most likely explanation for such data. So, what could a Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga remake be like?
With its simultaneous control of Mario and Luigi, timing-focused turn-based combat, and special field abilities, Superstar Saga set the foundation for every game in the series after it. However, it is over a decade old now, and its sequels have improved the series’ precision and polish.
More Story Content
Superstar Saga is a fantastic game, one of the best in the series for many fans, but it’s pretty short for an RPG. The original clocks it at around 20 hours, and it couldn’t hurt to see a bit more story content added for a remake. To keep the core story intact, it could even be a shorter sequence following other characters.
While new story content might be a bit much, there are plenty of features included in later Mario & Luigi titles that could be added to the original. For example, a boss rush mode, new mini-games, and special challenges would do a lot to expand the game’s content and provide new reasons to keep playing.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is a great game in its own right, and it wouldn’t need many changes to be a fantastic remake. If Nintendo really does have a 3DS remake in the works, here’s hoping it will stay true to Superstar Saga’s strengths.
