Cave Story+ Launches for the Switch on June 20

Fans suspected a new version of Cave Story would make its way to the Nintendo Switch, and now it’s official. Cave Story+ will launch for the Switch on June 20.

This version of the popular platformer, which has been released in several forms across various systems, will include:

  • Upgraded graphics
  • 7 gameplay modes (including Wind Fortress and Boss Rush)
  • 15 levels
  • 20 boss battles
  • 10 weapons
  • 4 different endings

Nicalis has described this as the definitive version of Cave Story and indicated that it will be supported with free content updates in the future, although they didn’t give any specifics.

Cave Story+ will be available both physically and digitally for $29.99. It’s unclear at this point if the physical copy is exclusive to GameStop, the only retailer to have listed it so far, but GameStop pre-orders of Cave Story+ will include an exclusive PVC keychain. The keychains feature chibi versions of Quote, Curly, and Balrog, and it’s random as to which character you’ll get with your pre-order.

Some fans have objected to the $29.99 price for a port of an old game, while others feel the additional content justifies it, especially for the physical copy. How do you feel about Cave Story+ for the Nintendo Switch? Will you be picking it up?
