Nindies Showcase Set for February 28, No Virtual Console on Switch at Launch

The Nintendo Switch is almost here, and Nintendo has made some important announcements about what we can expect to see from the eShop at launch.

First, Nintendo is celebrating the Switch’s lineup of indie games with a special showcase. These “Nindie” games will be featured in a video presentation on February 28 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET. You’ll be able to watch it live right here.

Three indie games will be available for the Nintendo Switch when it launches on March 3:

  • Fast RMX, the Switch-exclusive fast-paced racing game
  • Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, a full expansion game starring the Specter Knight from Shovel Knight
  • Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, the complete Shovel Knight collection that includes the original game, all of its DLC, and the Specter of Torment expansion

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment and Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be available for other platforms in April.

Virtual Console

The Virtual Console will not be available on the Nintendo Switch at launch. Nintendo plans to share more details about it in the future.

eShop Features

A system update on March 3 will allow your Switch to access the eShop. This update can be downloaded in the background.

Your Nintendo funds will be available across all Nintendo devices. If you already have funds that you’ve added through your 3DS or Wii U, they’ll be available to you on the Nintendo Switch once you link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account and link your Nintendo Account to your Switch.

You can also buy digital games from Nintendo’s website and have them automatically download to your Switch.

Finally, a news feature will tell you when new games are available on the eShop, as well as providing you with information about updates and upcoming games.

  1. is the Shovel Knight Treasure Trove releasing physically later on? 🙁

    • Overall, I’m not sure. If you have an existing physical copy of Shovel Knight for another system, it will be updated with all of the new content, but the last thing they said about the Nintendo Switch version of Shovel Knight is that they only have plans for a digital release right now, but “may consider doing [a physical release] in the future.”

      • darn… i have a feeling though eventually it will get retail.
