Yooka-Laylee Has Gone Gold, Backers Pick Their Platforms

Yooka-Laylee has gone gold! Playtonic Games made the announcement today that this much-anticipated 3D platformer is all ready for its April 11 release.

They also released a Kickstarter update to alert backers that it will soon be time for backers to make their final platform selection. This includes the Nintendo Switch version, although full details about how the Switch version will be handled are still unknown. According to Playtonic, they are working with Nintendo on it and “more details will be revealed in the future.”

If you backed Yooka-Laylee on Kickstarter, you’ll be able to choose your preferred platform through BackerKit. Keep in mind that the Nintendo Switch version is currently available only as a digital option. Many fans are hoping a physical Nintendo Switch option will become available in the future.

Wii U backers have the option to switch to another platform (with a bonus added if you select the PC version, to account for the price difference) or request a refund.

Meanwhile, Playtonic also hired yet another former Rare staff member. Justin Cook was a tester for games like Perfect Dark, Banjo-Tooie, and Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and he went on to become the lead designer for Viva Piñata. He will now be working with Playtonic Games.

Are you looking forward to Yooka-Laylee? Will you be getting it for the Nintendo Switch or one of the other systems? Let us know in the comments.
