Redout, 1001 Spikes, and Cave Story Coming to the Switch

Redout, 1001 Spikes, and Cave Story Coming to the Switch

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ isn’t the only popular indie game Nicalis is bringing to the Switch. They’ve also announced three more: Redout, 1001 Spikes, and Cave Story.

Redout is a racing game inspired by games like F-Zero and WipeOut. If you love futuristic racing games, it’s definitely one to look into. It will be available both physically and digitally.

1001 Spikes

1001 Spikes is a platforming game that will challenge players to overcome many obstacles, with a high degree of challenge and enough content to keep platformer fans busy for a while.

Cave Story

Finally, Cave Story is another 2D platformer, this time with gameplay reminiscent of Metroid. Unlike 1001 Spikes, Cave Story is more story-driven, and stars a protagonist with amnesia trying to save people from the evil Doctor. Cave Story has been highly praised over the years and is available on many Nintendo systems already.

It was also remade in 2011 for the 3DS as Cave Story 3D.

A mysterious fourth title?

The original announcement came from Nicalis in the form of a tweet that showed the Nintendo Switch home screen. It showed an icon for The Binding of Isaac, one for 1001 Spikes, one for Cave Story… and one for another game we don’t know what is.

The tweet itself has since disappeared. Why? We’re not sure, and Nicalis hasn’t commented on it. Maybe it’s because of that last game in the shot. It could have been Redout, of course, but if not, we might have yet another game from Nicalis to look forward to on the Nintendo Switch.

Redout, 1001 Spikes and Cave Story are all set to release this spring for the Switch. Will you be picking them up?

  1. Never heard of Redout so I am keeping my eye on it. I like Fast Racing RMX coming to Switch 1080p 60fps will be nice. Glad indies are filling in, think the Switch will excel at providing a great selection of games.
