Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Coming to the Nintendo Switch
Yacht Club Games has announced important news about the Shovel Knight games. First, Shovel Knight in its current form will be renamed to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove this spring.
Treasure Trove will contain Shovel of Hope (the original campaign),Plague of Shadows, and Specter of Torment. When Specter of Torment is released, all versions of Shovel Knight will also be updated with Body Swap Mode, and all except the 3DS and PS Vita versions will be updated with two-player co-op.
Later on in 2017, two more modes will be added, as well: the King’s Knight campaign and a four-player Battle Mode.
If you currently own Shovel Knight in any form, it will automatically be upgraded to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, and the new content will be added to it through updates. (However, Battle Mode will not be available for the 3DS or PS Vita versions.) This is important, because if you don’t own Shovel Knight, another important change is coming.
Once the current game becomes Treasure Trove, each individual campaign will also be made available separately at a lower price. Unfortunately, these won’t be coming to the Wii U and 3DS, so if you want to buy the campaigns separately on a Nintendo console, it will need to be the Switch. Meanwhile, the price of the Treasure Trove collection will be raised in the spring.
This might seem a bit confusing, so here are the basic points:
- If you already own Shovel Knight, you don’t need to do anything. It will become Treasure Trove automatically and get all the new content described above for free.
- If you don’t own Shovel Knight, you can 1) buy it now to have it automatically upgrade to Treasure Trove, 2) buy Treasure Trove at an increased price later, or 3) buy individual Shovel Knight campaigns at lower prices.
- Every campaign in Treasure Trove is accessible from the start.
