Dragon Quest XI Intro, 3DS Gameplay, and More
Dragon Quest XI is due out in Japan sometime next year for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch. At Jump Festa 2017, Square Enix launched the official teaser site and revealed new footage of the game. First up, let’s take a look at the opening movie.
Dragon Quest XI looks beautiful, and there’s nothing like a strong intro to get players excited for what sounds like it could be an epic adventure.
Two characters have been announced so far. The protagonist is a young man who has just turned 16. He lives in a quiet village, but it’s clear things won’t stay calm in his life for long. The first party member is Camus, the blue-haired thief from the opening movie.
Camus guides the protagonist during his journey, which we still don’t know too much about. However, we do know that the game is set in a world called Lotozetasia, a vast land with a World Tree.
They also shared new gameplay footage from both the PlayStation 4 and 3DS versions. The 3DS gameplay begins at 2:12.
Dragon Quest XI is a turn-based RPG. Square Enix announced that it would include the series’ “Puff Puff” ability, a Casino, and a variety of mini-games. The 3DS version will also support StreetPass.
We don’t know yet whether the Nintendo Switch version will be closer to the PS4 or 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI. We most likely won’t see anything about Dragon Quest XI on the Switch until after Nintendo’s big Nintendo Switch event in January. Until then, all we can do is speculate. Additionally, localization has yet to be announced, but since several Dragon Quest games have been localized recently, it seems likely that we’ll get this one as well.
