Snack World Short Film to Debut on December 17

On December 17, Level-5 will not only air the third Yo-kai Watch movie in Japan, but also a short animated film set in the Snack World universe. This film, The Snack World: Hitogirai no Lenny, will be directed by Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino.

The Snack World is an upcoming game for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as iOS and Android devices. Dubbed a “hyper casual fantasy” game, it is set in a world that blends together both fantasy and modern-day elements. It features simple real-time combat and will interact with real-life objects called “Jara” that sound as though they’ll function similarly to Nintendo’s amiibo, on a smaller scale.

This gameplay footage, recorded by Perfectly Nintendo during Level-5’s July 2016 live stream, should present a clearer picture of what The Snack World is like.

Level-5 announced it as a cross-media project they hoped would surpass what they’ve done with their previous projects, including Yo-kai Watch, with an anime series, a manga, and a toy line to accompany it.

The Snack World will be out on mobile devices in Japan sometime in April 2017, along with the anime, and the 3DS version will follow in July. No release dates for other regions have been announced yet, but Level-5 has referenced a release for The Snack World in the West.

Are you interested in the Snack World game or its short film? What do you think of the gameplay footage we’ve seen so far?
