A Look at Medal Challenges in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS
When Super Mario Maker was announced for the Nintendo 3DS, it seemed as though it would mainly have value to people who never played the Wii U version. After all, it looked pretty much identical except that certain features had been removed: Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS doesn’t have Mystery Mushrooms and costumes, amiibo support, or the ability to search for courses by their ID.
However, Nintendo has finally released a trailer detailing one of the features exclusive to the 3DS version of Super Mario Maker. 100 special courses designed by Nintendo will be pre-installed, and you can complete certain challenges in each of them to earn medals.
Let’s take a look at the new Medal Challenges trailer.
The trailer gives a few example challenges:
- Course 1-3: Defeat only Piranha Plants.
- Course 3-1: Reach the goal without releasing right on the d-pad.
- Course 5-2: Reach the goal without pressing the jump button.
- Course 9-2: Lure all flying Boos to the goal.
The medal challenges should be an interesting addition to Super Mario Maker, adding a bit more content not tied to the level creation system. Some players are hoping this feature will be added to the Wii U version as an update, but so far it looks as though the 100 pre-installed levels and their special challenges will be exclusive to the 3DS version of the game.
Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS will be out on December 1 in Japan and on December 2 in North America and Europe. Are you going to pick it up? Do the medal challenges make you more interested in the game? Let us know in the comments.
