Will We Get Yo-Kai Watch 2: Shinuchi?

On September 30, Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls came out in North America, over two years after their release in Japan. However, Japan actually has a third version of Yo-Kai Watch 2, which was released five months after the original versions.

Much like how the Pokémon series used to release two versions and then a third with additional changes, Yo-Kai Watch 2: Shinuchi combined the two game experiences, added its own exclusive yo-kai, and introduced the Oni Busters Mode.

However, while it would seem likely that they’d eventually localize the third version as well, it’s not a guarantee. For one thing, Oni Busters has already been included in Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls, under the localized name Yo-Kai Watch Blasters. Additionally, the sales of those two might determine whether or not Level-5 considers it worth translating another. On the other hand, Shinuchi does have yo-kai unavailable in the other versions. Maybe they’ll at least release some sort of downloadable content or update to add the new content.

One thing’s for sure: if it is localized, it won’t be called “Shinuchi.” Since they changed “Ganso” and “Honke” into “Bony Spirits” and “Fleshy Souls” respectively, one can only imagine what they’ll come up with next.

Meanwhile, the three-game model must be successful in Japan, because Level-5 just announced the third version of Yo-Kai Watch 3. Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sushi and Yo-Kai Watch 3: Tempura have been out in Japan since July, and the October issue of CoroCoro Magazine announced Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki.

This new version will be out in December, and there is a special bonus–four “God Yo-Kai”–if you link all three versions of the game together.

The announcement of Sukiyaki mirrors the announcement of Shinuchi in its timing. If Level-5 intends to release the third version of Yo-Kai Watch 2 in the West and follows similar timing, we should expect to hear something near the end of the year. However, Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls still aren’t available in Europe, so any further announcements might not come until after that.

Do you think Yo-Kai Watch 2: Shinuchi will be localized? If it is, what do you think they’ll call it?

  1. I think we’ll eventually get all the games… and I think Yo-Kai as a franchise will hang around on the 3DS a bit longer even with the Switch coming next year.

  2. I’m hoping… if they do they surely can offer bundles.
