What to Expect from Pokémon Sun and Moon

What to Expect from Pokémon Sun and Moon

Pokémon Sun and Moon will be out in November, so let’s talk about some of the things you have to look forward to in the latest additions to the Pokémon series.

An Exciting New Region

Pokémon Sun and Moon are set in the Hawaii-inspired Alola region, and it’s a bit different than the regions we’re used to. Trainers in Alola undergo special trials that include more than just battling, under the guidance of the Trial Captains and with a powerful Totem Pokémon battle at the end. It’s unclear yet if these trials will replace Gyms or not.

New Region!

Alola is also threatened by the mysterious Ultra Beasts, strange creatures that aren’t Pokémon. A research organization called the Aether Foundation is investigating them, while sheltering Pokémon from the villainous Team Skull.

New Pokémon

As with all Pokémon games, Sun and Moon introduce several new Pokémon for you to battle and catch. Not only that, but some of the previous Pokémon have adapted to the Alola region by changing form. For example, the Alolan Vulpix is an Ice-type Pokémon due to living on Alola’s cold mountains.

New Features

This generation might add more features than any other Pokémon game so far. You can now use powerful Z-Moves in battle, strengthen your Pokémon even further with Hyper Training, and cure their status ailments with Pokémon Refresh. There is a new four-way battle mode called Battle Royale, Poké Rides let you access new locations, and your Pokédex is inhabited by a Rotom that helps you keep track of your adventure and take pictures at photo spots.

And in a surprising twist, the time is different in each game. While both follow the real-world clock, Pokémon Moon’s time is shifted by 12 hours. When it’s day in Pokémon Sun, it will be night in Pokémon Moon.

In Conclusion

There are many reasons to be excited for Pokémon Sun and Moon. Fan-favorite features like Trainer customization are returning, as well. While the series is usually somewhat formulaic, this generation looks like it will have many surprises in store.
